ALL ABOUT US

Mini-Owner Thank You - our Austin mini-owner has dedicated three visits per month to attend visits to our mission target area in South Austin - there are so many facilities that want us to come - 2007-2019 when COVID hit- we are desparately looking for additional mini owners to work with us in the Austin area.

Julia and Mom Betty - joined us in 2013 from a referral from Dr. Joyce at Austin Equine. We are so glad she found and joined us. Julia handles all aspects of her minis as her mom Betty, is our honorary member at 99. We call her our supervisor :) Since COVID, she is our only Austin mini-owner and is currently working on Saturdays and Sundays. She is also on the board of directors.  She has 6 working minis - B.B. (Betty's Boy), Emily, Fiona, Jooney Bell, Mini Pearl and Wiggins .  Meet them on our Meet the Minis page.

Volunteers are the lifeline of Minis and Friends. We work in 2 people teams, a front end,  and a back end using our theory of working with trained miniature horses, called Equine Guided Interactions (EGI).

Potential new volunteers will now be given dates of visits they can attend and be trained hands-on. They will then be able to determine if working with us is what they want to do.

We now work on  Saturdays and one Sunday per month.  Saturday usually in the AM, Sunday early afternoon.

We do require attending 1 visit per month when scheduled to remain active.

Age Limitations:

  • 16 and up with parent

  • 70+ we do have volunteer activities, just not a mini-handler

CURRENT STATUS:

UPDATE:  We currently only have one mini-owner who works in south Austin area with her 6 minisWe are seriously looking for two or three new mini-owners to help cover the greater Austin metro area. Interested? Contact us at:  info@minisandfriends.org for more information.

You can SCHEDULE us by using the form on the Schedule page. Make sure you add your Facility name and where you are located. Until we add new mini-owners, we are mostly in central to south Austin, Austin, and Lakeway.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING - Potential new volunteers who have applied will be invited to attend a visit and learn hands-on how to work with a mini.  Following the visit, you will then tell the mini lead if you enjoyed it and want to continue working with us. She will give you your Logo t-shirt, a Visual How-To guide and collect your $25.00 admin fee.  Check out our website Volunteer page as we have new information there that is a must-read.
