A Mini Story
My New Digs
By Skittles Delleney
Well, we've moved into our new home, and I have my our own room, so no one can come eat my food or mess with me while I enjoy my meal for the day. I'm a lucky girl. My mommy, Khaki and my daddy, Cashew, get their own rooms, too. Sometimes, I just want my privacy in my own room, but my human mom, Candy, just won't allow me to lock my room gate, and she periodically checks to make sure I'm not hiding any alfalfa!
You should see all our bridles and leads and brushes and combs hanging on the wall. Sometimes I think I'm at the beauty salon because I get bathed and all prettied up. Mr. Dered, my ferrier, comes once every 6 weeks, so I don't get the full beauty treatment all at once. But I have a great life!
I want to thank Mr. Sims for the roofing materials that he gave to us and Mr. Sparr for helping my human dad put up the siding on TWO Saturdays in a row! Also, we are grateful for LCRA's generous gift of $1,000. It helped pay for the materials that were used to give us this nice, new home. And did you know that our gift from LCRA came from the employees who gave their own money to help us? Special thanks have to go to my "dad" Dean, also to Carter and Taylor Delleney for helping put the barn together. Hours were spent over 4 and a half months beginning with leveling the ground, digging and sinking posts, framing out the barn, putting on the roof and the siding and building stalls with swinging gates.
So when you can, hitch up your wagons and come on out. We'll stand under the trees over a bucket of water and talk about how good life can be. Maybe if we talk to her, Candy will bring us a few carrots.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you about how we feel about our new place. My "mom" Candy, has put up a sign that says "Believe" on the side of our house. It really has been a miracle that we have gone from living in a little run-down dog house to living in our beautiful new home.
See ya!
