Minis Out, In the Community Report

Bluebonnet Horse Expo, October 11, 2008

Mini thanks to all that joined us yesterday at the Bluebonnet Horse Expo at the Travis County Expo. We had a long but swell day meeting many new people and contacts. Minis in attendance were: MasterCard, SeanMonet, Buckshot, StarDust (who has a new mom!), and sweet Daisy from Bryan.

Volunteers were Gil and Sally, Ellen, Lin, Sandi and Jeff from Bryan, Aquila, Carolyn and Bonnie, Nell and Kelly and new to our group - Bonnie Barrington (who we met at Howdy Honda when trading in the old SUV) and wanted to become a volunteer, a mini-mom, and down the road when they move to Nachadoges TX - will become a Minis and Friends there. Marcia also stopped by and helped when she could - she was running another table in the vendor aisle. New soon to-be volunteer Diane Greig and her daughter Keira also stopped in to see what was going on - they will join us at the Austin Celtic Festival on 11/1 at Fiesta Gardens.

Sandi and her husband Jeff brought along a portable corral they gave to Lin and the minis can use it at events when we need it and when Lin is able to haul it - this portable corral made all the difference for the minis and gave us a sense of relief too from the many hands that usually ends our day early. They also brought along a BBQ lunch complete with potato salad for the volunteers there -- thank you so much Sandi for doing this.

Everyone who came bright and early helped to pitch in - the Minis and Friends way.  Bonnie, Carolyn and Ellen worked on our lovely new display (check out photos!) - And our table covering.  Ellen finished up the Silent Auction basket and gave it a gorgeous bow with trailer ribbons - amazing how she does that.  Aquila showed up with more handouts and gorgeous brochures.  All minis were decorated with something and all wore special hoof polish! It was great to see how awesome they all looked!

We had a great day with many people asking questions about Minis and Friends.  The event was held inside the show barn - so it was indoors and the covering kept it much cooler and less dusty than being outdoors.  We may even have some new people joining us as Pard-ners somewhere in the future.  If not, at least we were there to hand-out information.

StarDust was re-rescued by Lin from a pony ride place and bought home to OCR. He came along on Saturday and hit it off instantly with Bonnie B (our new volunteer who got all of her hands on training on the spot) Saturday.  So Bonnie is going to purchase StarDust from Lin and they will be a new happy family.  Bonnie will board StarDust at Lin's with the Amigos until she and her husband make their move to Nacogdoches.  So this was really, really cool. Welcome Bonnie and StarDust.

So thanks again for coming out and spending your Saturday with us - from 8:30 to 3pm... We can only work this well - when we have lots of Minis and lots of Friends.... it is what we do best...
